Grumman TBF-1C Avenger with “Donald Duck” nose art. The serial NZ2529 is provisional. Our decal sheet depicts the aircraft as operated in the war zone.

No.30 and 31 Squadron. On 26 January 1944, the first nine Avengers left for Espiritu Santo and arrived on the 27th. By the 30th all No.30 Squadron’s aircraft had arrived and commenced operational training.
No.30 Squadron pilots completed their tour in May 1944 and were replaced by the pilots of No.31 Squadron who arrived in the Islands on 25 May 1944.

Camouflage scheme. RNZAF Avengers were delivered in the US Navy ‘Basic (Non Specular) Camouflage Scheme’ as follows: Upper fuselage and leading edge of wings, Non-Specular Sea Blue. Upper wings and tail planes, Semi-Gloss Sea Blue. Fuselage sides and fin/rudder, Intermediate Blue. Undersurfaces, landing gear struts and wheel wells, Insignia White. Wheel hubs, natural metal. Propeller, cap is black or natural metal, blades are black with Orange Yellow tips.
Interior. Cockpit, Bronze Green (FS 34048) to wall of rear cockpit. Remainder of interior, Interior Green. Bomb bay, Bronze Green.
